In a sheltering fold of the south Devon countryside, where the land slips down to the coast, field by hedgerow-bounded field, lies a secret garden with a history as compelling as any that could be conjured by the imagination. Here, near Ipplepen, between Newton Abbot and Totnes, is the Italian Garden at Great Ambrook, an historic Grade II listed garden designed for one Arthur Smith Graham.
